A Certificate of Origin (CO) is like a passport for goods to pass through customs. Customs officials trust goods with a CO confirming their origin more than goods with unclear origins. Therefore, in international business, buyers always request exporters to provide a CO accompanying the goods.
A Certificate of Origin that does not grant preferential customs duties:
This is a certificate issued to exporters certifying the origin of goods from the issuing country. It can be used as documentation to certify compliance with the conditions of the importing country or the importer, but it cannot be used for tax reductions. This type of certificate is called an Ordinary Certificate of Origin.
Steps for Applying for a Certificate of Origin:
Certificates of origin can be obtained from several organizations and agencies, such as the Department of International Trade, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, provincial chambers of commerce, or the Federation of Thai Industries. The Department of International Trade can issue both regular and special (with preferential customs duties) certificates. For a regular certificate of origin (without preferential customs duties), you can apply from the Thai Chamber of Commerce, provincial chambers of commerce, or the Federation of Thai Industries.
